The Center is dedicated our main researches to the ethnic groups in southwest China and their ethnic relations to Southeast Asia, economic anthropology and ethnic minority economic issues in China, traditional knowledge of ethnic minorities and their intangible cultural heritage, history of ethnic minorities in southwest China and history of borderlands in China, Theory and methodology of ethnology and anthropology, visual anthropology, art anthropology, ecological anthropology and ethnic groups cultural industries, etc.

The Lancang-Mekong River basin included Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Yunnan, Tibet, Qinghai Province of China. Those countries and regions are interlinked biophysically that enable massive cultural exchange and trade practice. More importantly, this region is also one of the 34 world biodiversity hotspots, as well as richness in cultural diversity. As those ecological and cultural links, any change in a single place will have a regional effect, which therefore required a regional collaboration and cooperation mechanisms for ensuring sustainable development.

The Lancang-Mekong Anthropology Documentary Forum(LMADF) is a professional platform for documentary filmmakers and social science researchers held by NaCBES, which is attempt to expand the scope of the ethnographic image and video, to break the limits, and to explore the issues we all concerned——human, and the relationship between human and the surrounding.

In 25-28 July 2018 We are going to present a well-curated exhibition of documentary films from Lancang-Mekong river countries and regions, and includes forum related public programs, such as Q&A sessions, workshops, exhibitions, workshops and so on. And we are glad to invite documentary filmmakers from Southeast Asia countries to show their works in our center, besides we’ll have some discussion about their creative ideas and backgrounds. Fundamentally, we hope to explore more possibilities of documentary method and medium in the context of social sciences.
